Back to Garry's Games.

History

These games are not computer games. You must download the various files and print them out. These games have been progressively available since 2000. They are updated or changed continuously in response to suggestions, rethinks, or the kind efforts of those providing free translations.

Got a question? We love hearing your suggestions for improvement and queries. Email us at the address you can see at right. We change this address periodically as an anti-spam measure. You can always get the current address from this page. Happy gaming!

How to download the games

You can download the files you need by using the links. Right-click and choose 'Save Target As' (IE) or 'Save Link As' (Firefox) to get each file.

The only choice you have to make with each game is what board you want: one designed for A4 paper, US letter stock, or a one-sheet version for large-format printers (these are large files).

Each game is a download of between two and 11 MB. The printouts all use a lot of ink: have a spare cartridge ready.

Richard III

Current release: A great idea in limbo.

This game is still in development, so there is nothing to download yet. Sigh.

Using the files

The files are supplied in a standard zip format. Unless your computer was bought when Queen Victoria was a girl, you should be able to open the files readily.

What you need:

I strongly recommend dropping in on the nearest local printshop that has an industrial guillotine. There are a lot of cards and a lot of cutting. You will go mad doing it all yourself. I paid $AUD15 to have mine done. Believe me, its worth it.

Printing the board

Each game has three versions of the board, one for A4, one for US Letter stock, and one for large format printers that can print on a single sheet. With the exception of the latter, the board prints on to several sheets, from six to nine, depending on the game and the paper size. Since I don't know the print boundaries of your printer, I have used very generous overlaps between sheets: 15mm (about half-inch). You may end up with lots of redundant printout, but at least you know you got everything!

UNcheck the Fit to Paper box in Acrobat Reader to print the boards correctly. Otherwise, you end up with a very teeny-weeny board.

Printing everything else

Just for safety, non-A4 paper-users should check the Fit to Paper box in Acrobat Reader's print dialog for all the files intended to be printed on single sheets of card: that is, the cards and counters. I designed the games using A4 stock, so if you are using non-standard or US stock you may find they do not print correctly. Checking the Fit To Paper box should fix that problem.
